Release 7.2 Highlights

In Release 7.2, Actional brings the power of its Web services and SOA management capabilities to more solutions and platforms, extending its leadership in lifecycle SOA governance and the range of heterogeneous environments that Actional can monitor.

Specifically, the first product family offering business process governance (BPG)--unified visibility within and beyond business process management (BPM) processes--Actional now integrates with two more BPM solutions. Release 7.2 also features integration with two more registry-repository solutions. Now, only Actional has a lifecycle governance strategy that extends from the design environment to the business process context and beyond into middleware and services. Release 7.2 also extends the long roster of platforms that Actional can monitor and manage.

Highlights include:

Greater Integration with BPM Solutions

In Release 7.1, Actional introduced the first business process governance solution by integrating with Lombardi Teamworks. These new integrations extend Actional's business process governance (BPG) options.

Actional 7.2 includes new agents and integration for monitoring and reporting on SOA business processes executed by the TIBCO ActiveMatrix BusinessWorks BPM solution.

The resulting Actional BPG solution enables companies to monitor beyond the edges of the immediate BPM process with visibility into all the steps within a process including people-centric steps and call-outs from those steps. The result is visibility into the business context of the process, not just the IT infrastructure. It also tracks processes across BPM instances.

As a result, companies can:

  • Quickly uncover unexpected behavior of BPM call-outs and easily troubleshoot the route cause of a problem
  • Understand the performance of call-outs—and optimize them based on added visibility
  • Create alert thresholds and get alerts when the systems behind a call-out start to slow down, to assess the impact on the execution of the overall process and, if necessary, proactively triage the situation.
  • Compare how processes change from day to day
  • Perform deep, bi-directional impact analysis

Integration with Software AG's CentraSite Governance Edition and Fujitsu's and Software AG's CentraSite Enterprise Edition--for Lifecycle Governance

Actional now integrates with Software AG's CentraSite Governance Edition and Fujitsu's and Software AG's CentraSite Enterprise Edition. This extends Actional support for lifecycle governance to all major SOA registries and repositories. Actional also integrates with BEA AquaLogic Registry-Repository and HP Systinet.

By integrating with these solutions, the Actional Governance Module automatically publishes the following into its integrated registries to reflect the actual state of an SOA or Web services implementation:

  • Any service discovered by Actional not currently listed
  • Updated runtime usage statistics about a published service
  • Relationship information about consumers and services and interdependencies

Additional Server and Platform Support

Release 7.2 expands the range of heterogeneous resources that Actional can monitor and manage to include the Apache Tomcat application server as well as new versions of platforms already supported.
